Bullying, hazing, threats, intimidation, assault—no parent ever wants their child to experience these things. To witness any child’s distress over bullying or harassment at school is always heartbreaking and hearing that your own child is experiencing bullying can make a parent feel almost as helpless as their child.
But there’s hope.
Hope Scholarships are available to students who have been bullied or harassed in their public school. Any student who has suffered harassment, hazing, bullying, kidnapping, physical attack, robbery, sexual offenses, assault or battery, threat or intimidation, or fighting at a public K-12 school may be eligible to use the Hope Scholarship to transfer to a participating private school.
Recipients of a Hope Scholarship can choose to receive financial assistance toward private school tuition and fees or assistance with transportation to a public school in another school district. For the private school option, award amounts are determined by the student’s grade level and the county in which the student lives.
Parents can learn more about the application process by visiting Step Up for Students. Parents can also learn if their child is eligible for the Hope Scholarship and many other K-12 Scholarship Programs by taking our free survey, which allows you to download your child’s personalized results.
