In June, Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 7067, significantly expanding the Family Empowerment Scholarship and giving over 28,000 more students the opportunity to attend a participating private school during the 2020-2021 school year.
The Family Empowerment Scholarship is a publicly funded scholarship designed to help lower and middle-income families send their child to a participating private school. To qualify, families must meet Household Income Limits (see limits here). In addition, students must either have attended a public school during the previous school year, recently been in foster or out of home care or be entering Kindergarten.
While enrollment for the Family Empowerment Scholarship was formerly capped at 18,000 students during the 2019-2020 school year, HB 7067 raised the cap by 28,000 students, allowing as many as 46,000 students to benefit from the Family Empowerment Scholarship program during the 2020-2021 school year.
